Today I decided to start a super awesome and wonderful blog about my life, which is way more interesting than you would think.
Something happened today that made me want to go off to a boarding in New Hampshire (maybe I will; I'm applying to Exeter.). My school is cutting Spanish and maybe Chinese too! I can't believe the school would let this happen!
I lived and was schooled in Mexico, a country way poorer than the US, and English as well as German was tought from Kindergarten up. Any college that you apply to will look for a second language. With today's global buisness system, how can you get by without kowing Chinese, German, or Spanish? The high school is cutting French too! Growing up in a small town, some people have very narrow views of the world that could be widened if they had the opportunity to travel and learn a foreign language, like I did. Verbal communication is the most common, so why not try to be able to communicate in as many ways as possible? Spanish should be a required language because of the US's proximity to Mexico. 40% of the people at my school are Mexican immigrants who speak English, so why should we not be bilingual as well? I speak Spanish and have been taking and enjoying Chinese, but my opportunity to learn it has gone out the window due to budget cuts. I am writing a letter to President Obama protesting these ridiculous budject cuts. I believe my school could come up with the money to pay for these enriching and extremely important classes through fundraisers and TAG grants.
I wish with all my heart that everyone in this wonderful country would have the opportunity to learn foreign languages, but I'm probably just an illusional 13-year-old. Oh well and adios for now.
